Holland, MI
July 4th Weekend, 2008
After checking on our hotel room it was off to have a picnic in the park. Unfortunately, Holland State Park was full, so we had to go a bit farther north. Not a bad alternative, no?

July 4th. Waiting for the fireworks.
We decided to take a walk around Windmill Island, though we didn't walk around the entire 36 acres.
We did not go on the carousel, but the kids that did looked like they were having fun!
Dan and I decided to get a glimpse of the DeZwaan windmill inside and out.
This is America's only authentic, working Dutch windmill. It's 245 years old.
DeZwaan means “the swan” or “graceful bird”

Views from the ledge.
More pictures from ground-level.
This is the organ house where the antique Amsterdam street organ is housed.
A docent, in full traditional Dutch garb, was explaining how the organ works.
This was an overlook nearby. If you look closely, you can see a heron in the water.
While we were standing here, we could hear the organ in the distance.
A model of a typical (non-modern) Dutch home.
On the last full day of our trip we decided to head back near Holland State Park and rent bicycles.
Here are a few sites we saw near there.

I love to just sit and watch the boats go by....
That's Lake Michigan in the background.
The lighthouse is the famous "Big Red" lighthouse.
